When it is paid

Stamp duty and registration are paid when the agreement for sale is registered, not at possession. This is usually early, soon after booking, so keep the money ready alongside your down payment. A home loan normally does not cover these charges.

Things that change the figure

  • Stamp duty is charged on the agreement value or the government ready-reckoner value, whichever is higher.
  • Joint ownership with a man does not get the women's concession; it applies when a woman is the sole buyer.
  • Rates are set by the state and can change. Check the current rate on the IGR Maharashtra website or with your advocate before you pay.
